What we do

Unlock Northwich works to build confidence and life skills to help young people aged between 11 and 18 overcome obstacles to make a fruitful transition to adulthood and grow a fulfilling future.

Unlock Northwich has 3 main elements:

Unlock Youth Cafe

This is our Unlock Northwich home, where all activities take place. The aim is for this to be an inspiring environment that facilitates times of focus, but also times of relaxation and fun.

Young people can come and hang out with friends, chill and game with no need to spend any money. We will serve low-priced drinks and snacks catered to young people’s tastes should they wish to purchase anything.

We understand the need for safe community space for young people in Northwich and hope that the Unlock cafe will provide this, whilst it is staffed with trained and passionate youth workers and youth, eager to see young people thrive and be welcomed.

Our cafe is open to all youth in high school & college on Tuesdays 3:30-6:30pm and now Fridays 4-6:30pm. We have an older youth zone, open to years 9-13 on Fridays 6:30-8:30pm.

@The Hub, Forster Avenue, Weaverham, CW8 3BH.

We are open to all youth in high school and college!

In the Cafe, we often have lots of other activities going on that promote their wellbeing by learning new skills. For instance, we have free beginner music lessons, an arts and craft area & workshops, and we have casual football games. Click on the link below to find out everything we do in the Cafe!

Unlock Peer Tutoring

Unlock Northwich's main focus is peer tutoring, where a sixth form college student is paired with a GCSE student to give them one-to one support, for a minimum of 6 weeks. It is free, it takes place in the unlock cafe and the tutors would be volunteers. We believe the strength of this tutoring initiative is in the different environment of the cafe, and the peer element.

This will provide an excellent opportunity for the college students (tutors), to increase in their confidence through this responsibility and role, and also instill confidence in their younger counterparts.

We launched a small-scale pilot of the peer tutoring scheme after Easter 2024.

Unlock Youth Events

The Unlock cafe will also be hosting various youth events such as live music, competitions and international food-themed evenings, all free of charge. We aim to have events every 4-6 weeks, hosted by the Unlock team, many of which are youth themselves.

We hope that these events will be the host of fun memories for young people and will strengthen the local youth community.
